Heimu products are made from thermally modified (TMT) select grade FSC certified Merbau (Intsia bijuga). Thermal modification removes the extractives from the timber, as well as further increasing the durability and stability of the wood and results in an aesthetically pleasing dark brown colouration.
Thermal modification is achieved by heating the timber in industrial oven at temperatures in excess of 200°C. At the end of the process the chemical and physical properties have been permanently changed.
